Fix Remote Desktop DPI scaling issues with Windows 10 Anniversary update
RoyalTS worked flawlessly on Win 10 client but would not scale on the Thinkpad. Finally, was able to debug the problem with screen resolution on the new Carbon Thinkpad.
Ultimately, the RoyalTS did perform as it was supposed to but had important prerequisites. The first issue was recognizing that we had Windows 7 rather than Windows Windows 7 did not ship with the correct scaling pieces: requires updates to scale correctly.

Using my Surface Pro4 to remote desktop to my work computer the screen is so small that its not usable. I've tried some of the solutions when Ive googled the problem but none have been successful and certainly not recent.
If I adjust the DPI on my surface to compensate i loose some of the screen size and have to re-adjust when using normally. This is a frustrating problem and if I had known before i bought the surface may have thought twice. Does anyone have a recent realistic solution please? Did this solve your problem?

The closest thing I have found to a silver bullet that addresses most of these issues in one hit is to stop using the Remote Desktop Connection client that comes built into Windows One important thing to note is that some scaling of the remote desktop occurs when the remote session is established.
This only happens when you disconnect and reconnect. So if you have a session open on one of your screens e. Surface screen and then move that across to an external monitor it may not fill up the whole external screen when you try to go full screen.
If you disconnect and reconnect while on the external monitor you will now be able to go full screen on the external monitor. Remote Desktop Connection Manager has a quick way of doing this just right-click and select Reconnect server. The handling of DPI and associated scaling behaviour is different based on the version of the operating system.

This tool does RDP alright and is not blurry. I wonder that websites render nicely though, as images are usually not in high res.
